Scripting Voice Over

The following document shows the script we wrote for our documentary. We wrote it with the time frame three words per second in mind. However, we did not want to fill all of the spaces as that would make it sound rushed. Voice Over Script

Editing

At this point we were ready to edit our documentary. We did this with our EDL next to us in order to know what we were using and when.

Requesting Permission to Use Music

We found that Mercury Records are the label that the Killers are signed with, Paramore are signed to Fueled By Ramen and Olly Murs is signed to Epic Records. We used their wikipedia pages to establish and then checked the information on each labels website. We then needed to contact the labels and ask if we could use the music we wanted in our documentaries. Unfortunately, we could not find email addresses to email directly to ask so instead I tweeted each record label to ask if we could use it. They have yet to respond. The following GIF shows the tweets that I sent.

Edit Decision List

Once we had logged all of our footage, we had to decide on the best parts to include in our actual five minutes. To do this, we had our running order next to us to show us what we had schedules to go where, decided what we would use (using the logging sheet) and then wrote it on an edit decision list. We also wrote timings of clips we would use.

Logging

After we finsihed filming our footage for our documentary we had to then combine all of our footage onto logging sheets. As we used two memory cards we have completed two seperate logging sheets in order for us to find what shots we need quickly.

This is the logging sheet for memory card one: Logging Sheet This is the logging sheet for memory card two: Logging Sheet 2

Filming - Opening Titles

Once our designed t-shirt arrived we filmed our opening sequence. We did this a few times as we wanted it to be perfect. The first time we just took photos of a fellow student wearing a variety of t-shirts followed by our t-shirt finally. The second time we filmed another student taking off around 8 t-shirts and ours was underneath, however there was too much space around the sides. We then re-filmed this as a close up on the t-shirts whilst Lauren took them off. The final time is the one we will use as the previous attempts were not very clear and we want people to see the variety of t-shirts that we have used.

Filming - Archive Material

This morning we filmed archive footage for our documentary. We decided to film articles from the internet about the different things that have caused controversey after being printed on t-shirts. We got these articles from various news websites. We also filmed websites that sell t-shirts for cutaways, such as the Glamour Kills website (http://www.glamourkills.com/) as well as images of t-shirts.

Filming - Cutaways for interview with James Costello

This afternoon we filmed more cutaways for our interview with James Costello as he previously did not have enough t-shirts for us to film a variety of shots. He brought in more t-shirts and let us film him wearing them as well as take photographs of them.

Filming - Interview with a Sociologist

At 11:50 today, we interviewed a sociology teacher from our school. The interview is about conformity and the ways in which people conform through what they wear. We also asked about ehr favourite t-shirts. The interview took place in a humanities classroom at school, we then filmed some cutaways for the interview including her talking to pupils as well as her sitting at a desk.

Filming - Interview with T-shirt Printer - Birkenhead

At 11 o'clock today we went into Birkenhead Market and interviewed a t-shirt printer about how she prints t-shirts as well as about the t-shirt designs she has printed. We also filmed around her stall for cutaways and filmed a variety of the t-shirts she has hanging up to show her work.

Filming - Cutaways for interviews with Adam and Charlotte

Today we filmed cutaways for our interviews with Adam Roberts and Charlotte Evans. We filmed both of them wearing a variety of t-shirts that they brought into school as well as took photographs of them wearing their t-shirts.

Filming - Interviews With People Who Wear T-shirts.

We filmed these over a period of time as all of our interviewees were not available at one time.

17/10/2012 - We interviewed Bethany Johnson about the t-shirts she wears and why she thinks people wear t-shirts in general. We also filmed shots of her t-shirts to use as cutaways when she talks about them.

17/10/2012 - We interviewed James Costello about the t-shirts he wears with the focus on the band t-shirts he owns. The interview was shot in big close up as we were unable to film him at home with his t-shirts. We were also unable to film for cutaways as he forgot to bring t-shirts. This is to be done at a later date.

30/10/2012 - This afternoon we interviewed Charlotte Evans about the t-shirts that she wears. She talked about a variety of her t-shirts including her favourite t-shirt which includes a quote from the popular television show The Big Bang Theory. We shot the interview on a plain background so as not to distract from the interview. We did not have time to film the cutaways so arranged to do this over the next few days.

01/11/2012 - During our Media lesson we interviewed Adam as he often wears t-shirts. We shot the interview on a relatively plain background and in close up. We filmed a few cutaways however we arranged for Adam to bring more t-shirts to school in order for us to film even more.

05/11/2012 - This evening we interviewed Mark and James Kenny about the t-shirts that they wear. The interview took place at my house. We hoped to film the interview in front of an open wardrobe however due to lack of space this was not possible.

Filming - Vox Pops in Liverpool and Guerilla Filming

After school, myself and Taylor went to Liverpool One in order to film more vox pops for the start of our documentary, we asked people about their favourite t-shirts and what they think it said about them as a person. We got around 10 more answers and should have enough for the beginning of the documentary. We also took part in guerilla filming (which was my favourite part of the filming process), the shops we filmed in where Primark and New Look.
