Evaluation Question 4
4) How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
I also used Survey Monkey in order to compile the results of my audience feedback as the website makes small charts and tables for me, it also makes it easier to send the questionnaire to people as I only have to send the links to the people I want to fill it in.

Audience Feedback - Audio
As well as getting the questionnaire filled out online, I decided to record an answer and make a small video with the audio on. I then uploaded my video to YouTube and have embeded it below.

Audience Feedback
In order to gain audience feedback, I had to create questionnaire to get people to fill in. Below is the questionnaire I asked 10 members of our target audience to fill out. I have used Survey Monkey to compile the results, as this website puts all the information into charts and tables for me. I then used that to embed the actual questionnaire to my blog.

Newspaper Advertisement Production
The following presentation shows the development of my newspaper print advert. It includes screen grabs I took throughout my work.
As our documentary would be shown on the BBC, there were no style guides available for the newspaper advert as they do not often use print adverts, so I used the Channel 4 style guide for guidance.

Drafting Newspaper Advertisement
I was placed in charge of creating the newspaper advert so it was up to me to produce it. We discussed ideas regarding what to put on the advert, then once we had a solid idea I sketched it and Lauren and Taylor both approved it. We decided that we wanted to get a group of people to wear white t-shirts and then we would write stereotypes on them once we had uploaded the photos onto Adobe Photoshop. We then took the idea one step further and decided to challenge the audience preconceived ideas by writing the opposite of the stereotype the model would be perceived as. Below is the rough sketch I drew of the print advert.
As we scheduled our documentary to be shown on BBC 3, it is important to note that the BBC do not usually use print media advertisements. However, we decided that our print advert would be shown in magazines printed by the BBC such as the Radio Times and Top Of The Pops. Ideally, we would also like it to appear in other popular teenage publications such as Kerrang! and Teen Now in order to be directly shown to our target audience.

Recording and Editing the Radio Trailer
The following SlideRocket presentation explains how we made our radio trailer and the finished Radio Trailer is available to listen to at the end.

Scripting Radio Trailer
The document below is the script written for the radio trailer we are going to produce. As we decided that our documentary was to be broadcast on BBC 3, our radio trailer will be broadcast on the BBC radio channels as the BBC often use synergy in their marketing. As our target audience is males and females aged 16 - 25, the most vital radio station for our trailer to be played on is BBC Radio 1 as they have a similar target audience (15 - 29) year olds.
The top section of the document shows the whole of the scripted radio trailer and the bottom shows the parts the voiceover will say.

Scripting Voice Over
The following document shows the script we wrote for our documentary. We wrote it with the time frame three words per second in mind. However, we did not want to fill all of the spaces as that would make it sound rushed.

Editing
At this point we were ready to edit our documentary. We did this with our EDL next to us in order to know what we were using and when.
Requesting Permission to Use Music
We found that Mercury Records are the label that the Killers are signed with, Paramore are signed to Fueled By Ramen and Olly Murs is signed to Epic Records. We used their wikipedia pages to establish and then checked the information on each labels website. We then needed to contact the labels and ask if we could use the music we wanted in our documentaries. Unfortunately, we could not find email addresses to email directly to ask so instead I tweeted each record label to ask if we could use it. They have yet to respond. The following GIF shows the tweets that I sent.

Edit Decision List
Once we had logged all of our footage, we had to decide on the best parts to include in our actual five minutes. To do this, we had our running order next to us to show us what we had schedules to go where, decided what we would use (using the logging sheet) and then wrote it on an edit decision list. We also wrote timings of clips we would use.

Logging
After we finsihed filming our footage for our documentary we had to then combine all of our footage onto logging sheets. As we used two memory cards we have completed two seperate logging sheets in order for us to find what shots we need quickly.
This is the logging sheet for memory card one: Logging Sheet This is the logging sheet for memory card two: Logging Sheet 2

Filming - Opening Titles
Once our designed t-shirt arrived we filmed our opening sequence. We did this a few times as we wanted it to be perfect. The first time we just took photos of a fellow student wearing a variety of t-shirts followed by our t-shirt finally. The second time we filmed another student taking off around 8 t-shirts and ours was underneath, however there was too much space around the sides. We then re-filmed this as a close up on the t-shirts whilst Lauren took them off. The final time is the one we will use as the previous attempts were not very clear and we want people to see the variety of t-shirts that we have used.

Filming - Archive Material
This morning we filmed archive footage for our documentary. We decided to film articles from the internet about the different things that have caused controversey after being printed on t-shirts. We got these articles from various news websites. We also filmed websites that sell t-shirts for cutaways, such as the Glamour Kills website (http://www.glamourkills.com/) as well as images of t-shirts.

Filming - Cutaways for interview with James Costello
This afternoon we filmed more cutaways for our interview with James Costello as he previously did not have enough t-shirts for us to film a variety of shots. He brought in more t-shirts and let us film him wearing them as well as take photographs of them.
Filming - Interview with a Sociologist
At 11:50 today, we interviewed a sociology teacher from our school. The interview is about conformity and the ways in which people conform through what they wear. We also asked about ehr favourite t-shirts. The interview took place in a humanities classroom at school, we then filmed some cutaways for the interview including her talking to pupils as well as her sitting at a desk.

Filming - Cutaways for interviews with Adam and Charlotte
Today we filmed cutaways for our interviews with Adam Roberts and Charlotte Evans. We filmed both of them wearing a variety of t-shirts that they brought into school as well as took photographs of them wearing their t-shirts.
Filming - Interviews With People Who Wear T-shirts.
We filmed these over a period of time as all of our interviewees were not available at one time.
17/10/2012 - We interviewed Bethany Johnson about the t-shirts she wears and why she thinks people wear t-shirts in general. We also filmed shots of her t-shirts to use as cutaways when she talks about them.
17/10/2012 - We interviewed James Costello about the t-shirts he wears with the focus on the band t-shirts he owns. The interview was shot in big close up as we were unable to film him at home with his t-shirts. We were also unable to film for cutaways as he forgot to bring t-shirts. This is to be done at a later date.

30/10/2012 - This afternoon we interviewed Charlotte Evans about the t-shirts that she wears. She talked about a variety of her t-shirts including her favourite t-shirt which includes a quote from the popular television show The Big Bang Theory. We shot the interview on a plain background so as not to distract from the interview. We did not have time to film the cutaways so arranged to do this over the next few days.
01/11/2012 - During our Media lesson we interviewed Adam as he often wears t-shirts. We shot the interview on a relatively plain background and in close up. We filmed a few cutaways however we arranged for Adam to bring more t-shirts to school in order for us to film even more.
05/11/2012 - This evening we interviewed Mark and James Kenny about the t-shirts that they wear. The interview took place at my house. We hoped to film the interview in front of an open wardrobe however due to lack of space this was not possible.

Filming - Vox Pops in Liverpool and Guerilla Filming
After school, myself and Taylor went to Liverpool One in order to film more vox pops for the start of our documentary, we asked people about their favourite t-shirts and what they think it said about them as a person. We got around 10 more answers and should have enough for the beginning of the documentary. We also took part in guerilla filming (which was my favourite part of the filming process), the shops we filmed in where Primark and New Look.

Filming - Vox Pops in Liscard
During two free periods, myself and Lauren went to film vox pops in a local shopping area called Liscard. We set up for two hours and throughout the whole time, only managed to get 3 people to answer or questions. This is not enough so we have arranged to film for more vox pops on Thursday only this time we are going to do them in a bigger area in order for us to ask more people to participate.

Filming - Vox Pops in School
Before we film our vox pops tomorrow, we tested out our questions outside of the common room as we wanted to make sure that we got interesting answers.

Filming - Textiles Teacher
At lunch time we interviewed a textiles teacher in school about how t-shirts have changed and about her favourite t-shirts. The interview was conducted in a textiles classroom as this meant that the mise-en-scene was relevant to the interviewee. We also filmed shots around her room in order to use these as cutaways and to anchor the reason that we interviewed her as well as to show her job role.

Filming - Pulp in Liverpool One and Liverpool City Centre.
After school we went back to Pulp in Liverpool One as we wanted to film the interview again. We also decided we needed more cutaways from inside the store and that some of the original cutaways could be imrpoved on. We now have a variety of cutaways that we can use throughout the documentary. We also filmed shots outside of some shops in Liverpool City Centre for our montage at the start of our documentary which is based around the High Street.

Storyboard For Opening Sequence
We have sketched a storyboard for how we want our opening sequence to look. We came up with the title PersonaliTees and we are going to get this printed on to a t-shirt, we will then get someone to wear a variety of t-shirts and take them off one by one until the only one left says 'PersonaliTees'.

Questions for Interviews
The following powerpoint presentation displays all of the questions we plan on asking for each of our interviews. The only questions that are not included are from the vox pops. The questions we will ask for these is:
- What is your favourite t-shirt and why?
- What does your favourite t-shirt say about you?

TV Scheduling
TV Scheduling
TV scheduling is largely governed by target audience.
There are three types of TV scheduling:
1. Pre-echo – scheduling a programme before a popular or established programme. The hope is the audience will tunr in before the start of the established programme and catch the end of the new programme and hopefully something will interest them and make them want to watch the whole programme next time.
(What Happens in Kavos is being shown before One Born Every Minute on Channel 4 which has proved a hit with audiences)
2. Inheritance – scheduling a new programme after a popular or established programme in the hope it will inherit some or all of its audience.
(Mr Selfridge is shown on ITV1 after the popular programme Dancing On Ice in order to inherit some of its audience)
2. Inheritance – scheduling a new programme after a popular or established programme in the hope it will inherit some or all of its audience.
3. Hammocking – Scheduling a new programme between two popular or established programmes in the hope it will benefit from both pre-echo and inheritance.
(Cornwall with Caroline Quentin is scheduled between the two episodes of Coronation Street in the hopes that it will gain viewers who do not turn over)
Scheduling is important as it is all about getting the biggest possible audince for programmes.
The BBC needs the biggest possible audience so they are not accused of wasting the public's monry that they get from the license fee. That is also the reason that there are no game shows on the BBC that offer massive prizes. the money we give is to make TV shows not to give prizes.
ITV raises revenue mainly through advertising, one advert can raise a lot of money. Businesses use adverts in order to compete with other businesses. ITV has to justify the pricing of adverts by getting the biggest possible audience for their TV shows.
Tv shows are never shown at exactly the time thet are scheduled for. This is so the audience cataches the end of an earlier programme or sometimes a trailer for a new programme which will hopefully interest them.
Channel Loyalty
Channel loyalty existed a lot in the 1970s and 80s. Audiences would tune in and watch nothing else all evening, this meant that they stayed with one particular channel. In recent years, the introduction of digital television means that channel loyalty is no longer an issue for audiences.
Research for Documentary - Secondary Research
Secondary Research
I will now conduct secondary research for what we can include in our documentary.
Music
Music is important as this will be a way of hooking the viewer so they want to continue watching.
The song is relevant asour target audience identitfied All Time Low as one of their favourite bands. It also talks about clothes.
This song is about t-shirts and was quite popular a few years ago so the audience would recognise the song.
